Here it is, pictured below:</p>\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-667\" alt=\"IMG_5009\" src=\"/img/uploads/2014/05/IMG_5009-800x533.jpg\" />\n<p>After ordering my <a href=\"http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000S6LZBO\">Worm Factory</a>, I prepared the wrap graphic from two pictures of a compost pile, tiled into a 20″x40″ texture, shown below. This would give me enough material to cover the front, left and right sides of the worm tower.</p>\n<img alt=\"compost_texture\" src=\"/img/uploads/2014/05/compost_texture-800x400.jpg\" />\n<p>Once I had the texture printed out, I cut it to shape and applied the decal to each face of the bin.</p>\n<img alt=\"IMG_20140507_214841\" src=\"/img/uploads/2014/05/IMG_20140507_214841-800x600.jpg\" />\n<p>I had initially thought of making the <a href=\"/notes/soil-as-medium-midterm/\">fake compost rock</a> from my midterm project. In switching to this more functional execution, I think my initial concept shifted as well. With my midterm project, products from SkyMall re-designed to suppress over-simplification of environmental systems, I was trying to tackle a rhetorical issue. The compost bin speaks both to a more specific audience (museum gift store patrons) and also directly to action rather than thought. If a <a href=\"http://www.momastore.org/museum/moma/ProductDisplay_Tea%20Bag%20Tea%20Infuser_10451_10001_102565_-1_26669_26671_102616\">$30 tea strainer</a> designed to look like its <a href=\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_bag\">&#x3C; $1 counterpart</a> is how the museum gift shop audience prefers to steep tea, then logically they would also prefer to compost with a $80 (plus my parts and labor) compost bin designed to look like a pile of food scraps.\nHere it is in action!</p>\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-668\" alt=\"IMG_5016\" src=\"/img/uploads/2014/05/IMG_5016-800x533.jpg\" />\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-669\" alt=\"IMG_5020\" src=\"/img/uploads/2014/05/IMG_5020-800x533.jpg\" />\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-670\" alt=\"IMG_5027\" src=\"/img/uploads/2014/05/IMG_5027-800x533.jpg\" />","frontmatter":{"path":"/notes/soil-as-medium-final/","title":"Soil as Medium: Final","date":"2014-05-10T17:39:03.000Z","categories":["ITP","Soil as Medium","Project Write-Up"],"churl":null,"uses":null}}},"pageContext":{"post":true,"prev":{"url":"/notes/announcing-skydesigner-sam-brenner-joins-the-labs/","title":"Announcing SkyDesigner!
